battery can not charge when it is plugged in but latop works well just without battery

My old battery dies so I bought a new one, and it does not work. I know it is the battery because my computer powers up without the battery when it is plugged in.
Can someone tell me how to fix this?

Hi,

You may want to check the terminals where the battery meets the motherboard just to make sure everything soldered properly. Since the laptop does work fine using the AC adapter that only means your charger is okay. Also was the replacement battery the same with old one you replaced it with? Lastly before you consider replacing the battery again try to uninstall/reinstall the "microsoft acpi-compliant control method battery" in Device Manager. If it will not work I would suggest replacing the battery itself.
