battery not charging past 50% and shuts down

I have a asus x53E that says the battery is at 50% and charging but doesn't actully charge and if you unplug it it just shuts down

How old is it? The battery may have reached the end of its useful life, or has a dead cell in it.

If less than 1 year, laptop manufacturer will replace, after that it pot luck if they will do anything. HP/Dell and the like will just fob you off and try and sell you a replacement.
