next week's news "Thefts of electronics up 75% from Best Buy Stores around the country" Story at 11

what is the world coming to?! You fire the Hard Working Man and give the Criminal a Hand.

[citation][nom]royalcrown[/nom]And no one would be forcing those employees to stop anyone from stealing, that was the employee's choice. The family of said employee or employee, should have no right to sue the employer should they decide to stop a thief.[/citation]

maybe I didnt express my point correctly. it is not about not being sued by the family (although I am aware that does happen), it was about the employee being able to come home to his/her family when the work day is over. some companies do care about the safety and well being of thier employees.

[citation][nom]warezme[/nom]so sad...., 51 and working at best buy, I mean that he got fired[/citation]

Sounds like he would kick your ass......

Lawmakers need to put a new law on the books saying "if you try to commit theft from a retailer, you hereby revoke your right to sue the company for injury when they knock you the F#$% out."

That's the sort of guy I'd want to hire for my store if I was in that sort of business.
I'd rather have a reputation for injuring a thief than being easy pray.

this was a simple way to get rid of another older worker. people in their 50's suddenly become expendable. unfortunately that leaves those who could care less if you get help or not and prefer texting to working while at work. our BB is loaded w/employees who could care less if a customer gets help or not, they are mostly in their 20's and a few in their 30's. the work ethic in the people they hire is non existent.

I can tell you I for one will no longer trade with Best Buy. I have been a good customer at their Salisbury Maryland store. There are too many other choices when it comes to electronics. I just refuse to deal with a company with "NO" ethics when it comes to their employees.

What if the guy had a gun, didn't intend to use it but in order to get away, the employee tackles him, he gets up and starts shooting to get away with the laptops, then his family would be suing best buy.

That's why best buy is on the out anyway. You would have been looking for a new job in a couple years regardless

Rules like this have been in place for a long time, unbeknownst to some employees though. When I worked retail from 98-03 all of the companies I worked for had these kinds of rules. Yes, it's total bullshit but you have lawyers to thank for this. Ambulance chasing douchebags that uplift the rights of the criminal while the person who takes pride in his/her job gets chastised for technically doing the right thing. This is the reason why online shopping will soon be the only way and companies like Best Buy are going the way of the Dodo. Look at Circuit City and The Wiz, you can't find a brick-and-mortar store anymore BUT you can still buy from them online. Maybe those guys had the right idea many many years ago.

[citation][nom]zerapio[/nom]Don't be a moron, it has nothing to do with liberals. A lawsuit will cost you more even if you win it from attorney fees. It's a smart choice for the company to implement the no-robber-stopping policy.[/citation]
Thats whats wrong. Lawyers should all be fired for making stupid laws.
