The problem I have with the price of this product is that it is just too high. The Asus Eee Slate is only $300 more and blows this thing out of the water. I just don't find $800 reasonable for this level of hardware. Sure, its better than the iPad, but non-Apple products are usually priced more reasonably. This might have a lot to do with Best Buy's cut.

[citation][nom]oblivionlord[/nom]In the commercial the girl herself is using a Motorola pad. Unless the guy magically put his onto her desk then it's safe to say that all the drones were already using Motorolla pads.Commercial would have made more sense if she was using an iPad.[/citation]

You may want to watch the commercial again... the guy slides over on his chair to drop off the tablet in her cube.

[citation][nom]o0RaidR0o[/nom]Dude your getting a whole lot more hardware then the iPad, so your going to pay more. The iPad is over priced because it doesn't have dual camera's, no sd slot, no support for flash, etc. You get all that and a bag of chips with the Xoom, so yeah expect to pay more.[/citation]

I think people are so upset because they are expecting all non-Apple tablets to be cheaper then an iPad, including those that are put on the same level of quality as the iPad. They fail to realise that if they want a nice quality product that isn't plagued with bugs, they'll have to pay for it. Even you complain about the price of the iPad because of the lack of features, but you fail to include reliability as a feature. I'm guessing the iPad isn't perfect(I don't own one), but they must be doing something right if people are still willing to pay for them over the Archos and other cheap tablets... and the millions of people buying them aren't all Apple fan boys.

I guess Motorola listened to the wrong geeks. You know the ones who kept harping about how the iPad was a fail because it lacked a USB, flash card reader, camera, etc. etc. and costs be damned! Whoops.

[citation][nom]kenyu73[/nom]"You can get one hell of a nice notebook for that kind of money."For an $800 laptop, I can get an even BETTER desktop. For the price of an $800 desktop, I can get a "cell-phone" watch that ONLY does phone calls (maybe a calc too).PLEASE stop comparing different types/groups of tech. It's not the same focus.[/citation]

Then just what is the focus? Pretentious jerks looking to impress the simple minded masses?

Wow, this is awesome... apple fanboys and apple haters duke it out...

In the end we'll see how well it sells. Whether someone buys it or not is a personal choice but... based on the hardware alone this worlds better than the highest end IPad 1 but is priced the same... so you're getting MORE for your money.... isn't that what consumers want? If you want a lower priced POS then buy a clone.

Don't expect a Ferrari on a Yugo budget...

I personally plan on getting one.

[citation][nom]mrpijey[/nom]Well what did you people expect? Any decent hardware will cost money. You can't pickup a good and brand new tech for free. It's like with the netbooks, you could pickup some crap netbook with a bad screen, slow CPU and slow SSD for shits, or you could get a much better one, but then it would cost you a lot more.If you want a cheap tablet then get one of those crap chinese ones, usually some heap of plastic, an old and outdated screen jammed in and a CPU that makes your cellphone look like a beast in comparison. And you'll get it next to free. The Galaxy Tab was expensive, but it was also top of the line of Android tablets with excellent quality build, all features you wanted and excellent screen and speed. This Tegra one looks even more powerful. Get your heads out of the clouds and face the reality.I've tested a few of those el-cheapo tablets and they have been next to useless. I also own a Galaxy Tab and iPad and they are lightyears ahead in every department, speed, quality, enjoyment, features, durability...You want good stuff? Then you'll pay premium.[/citation]
Sorry to say mate, but you sound like an ignorant prick - hope you're not one though. Just because you have the means to purchase all the gadgets to your heart's desire doesn't mean we all do. Android is still a platform aimed at geeks and people who are ready to fiddle around with the device. If you sell this kind of device to Apple-esque prices, other than a few well to do geeks, there's not a lot of people who will be buying it, since most people paying 800 bucks are not going to take the risk to brick such an expensive tablet.

First off, I will say that I am an Apple hater. I had a palm pre phone then upgraded to an HTC evo. I sneered at all those people who kept insisting iPhone was the best when it really wasnt. When I heard that there were tablets coming out to compete with iPad I couldn't wait to get my hands on one. Around Christmas time I went to try the galaxy and to be honest...... it sucked. It wasn't smooth or responsive at all and it took forever to load up a web page. I then decided to take a look at the iPad wondering what all the fuss was about. Everything seemed so much better on the iPad. For me, it was just the right size to read newspaper articles or watch movies. I was totally impressed. I also thought that Samsung must be smoking crack if they think they can compete with a device that is twice their size, much smoother and the same price....... WTF?

Anyhow, ipad2 is coming and most people are not interested in a device more expensive than the most popular Christmas gift for 2011. Motorola, you let me down. Maybe HTC will be able to deliver a cheaper solution.

Off topic, for Jane: I use IE7 at work, and now suddenly (within the last few weeks), posts on the site (unless there is a quotation) are side-by-side with a users name, rather than underneath as they used to be. It makes posts very hard to read. Anyone else seeing this?

It's a nice tablet but for $800 it's not going to sell very well. Your avarage person is just going to buy an Ipad. Though i would rather have this than the equally priced Ipad if the battery life is good.

This isn't overpriced like how Apple is overpriced. Apple's products are considered overpriced because of the weaker hardware that they put in. This is way better hardware than Apple's $800 priced iPad.

I think people are just upset because they want it but can't afford it. I'm in that group too but I can see why they priced it as is.

They'll probably drop the price if the iPad 2 comes out at the same price.

ripoff even the old windows xp based tablet pc's from a few years ago were not this expensive.
I still have my old toshiba one which I got for about $250, 2 years after it came out, and it only cost $40 for me to repair it :)

Also wanted to add, whats with mobile devices and being so expensive now.

What ever happened with the pocket pc days where the max a device would go is like $400 and within a year the price would drop to about $120, I got my dell axim x51v, 1 year after it came out for $100 (open box) and I still use it today, updated to windows mobile 6.1 and everything is great.

in the past 6 years prices have only been going up, especially for smartphones, even though the technology for them has been getting cheaper. It cost less to make a smartphone now than it did 6 years ago but prices are about 2-3 times as high.

ROFL, $800!? Oh wow Apple products look cheap by comparison... And for those people who say this is better than the iPad, should speak when the new one drops in a few weeks... I love how all the bashing comes full circle... I hope someone can make an iPad competitor that will do Android proud so all the bashers can have an example to point at...
