Bios update on laptop

I was on HP and Dell's website and noticed that the bios updates are .exe
Is there any way to convert the .exe into an .iso that would boot itself from the CD drive instead of windows?

if its an exe have you tried running it?
some bios updates can be done while being on your os

I haven't downloaded them because I wouldn't flash from windows (I heard too many horror stories). Maybe the exe download has an attached iso ?
