I normally use Avira free AV but it's OnDemand Scanner stopped working. So I decided to uninstall it and switch to Bitdefender free edition. However when I checked, Windows Defender is still active and stating my PC is at risk. I thought it's supposed to turn off when you install a third-party AV. What should I do? Please help. Thanks

I know there was an issue with Norton not working properly and Windows defender showing as on after upgrading to Windows 10.

I am assuming that this is also true with some other AVs as well.

There are a couple of fixes you can try.

1. Uninstall your existing AV and reinstall.

2. Press Windows Key + R to open Run. Type "gpedit.msc" and hit Enter. In the left pane of Local Group Policy Editor, navigate to the following location: Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Windows Defender ------ In the right pane you will see a policy labeled “Turn off Windows Defender“. Double-click on that policy and set it to Enabled and then click OK at the bottom.

NOTE: Make sure you have the Windows 10 compatible version of Bitdefender
