my cat was stepping all over my keyboard and now the screen is black. Im able to turn it on and enter my password but once I'm in i can't see my home screen. what do i do !?

Theres a shortcut for some laptops that lets you switch the screen off but leave the computer running, a quick google using you computer model should find the solution
