Black stripe started showing up across laptop screen

Every now and then I see this lovely black stripe across my screen. I can touch it to make it go away... for now. I recently did a system restore and added a stick of ram, but the lappy is barely over a year old, and I have taken care of it, never dropped it or anything.

It is an Acer Aspire V5-573P-6896

I read a thread about a similar acer doing this where he was told to replace the cable and it never got resolved. Any input? here is a pic I took of it.

Hi,

It seems like a hardware problem to me but do try these troubleshooting steps.
- Start by connecting an external monitor and see if the same problem will persist or not.
- You may need to open your laptop as well just to make sure the ribbon cable is seated properly in the motherboard and the LCD itself.
- Do also check the ribbon cable itself if it's damaged or not.
- Lastly you may really need to replace the ribbon cable itself but if replacing the cable will not work you'll need to replace the whole LCD.
