Blatant ripoff or innovation?

At some point, a game either stops being a ripoff, or it just is: for
example, it would be easyo say that "Galaxian" was a Space Invaders
ripoff. But then was Galaga? Phoenix? What is your verdict on these:

SPACE HAWK (ripoff of Asteroids?) - I say no.

ASTROSMASH (ripoff of Asteroids?) - I say definitely no, though it was
meant to be, it didn't turn out that way.

SPACE ARMADA (ripoff of Space Invaders?) - Definitely.

BALOON FIGHT (ripoff of Joust?) - I say yes.

If you look at the game at its basic level, they are a rip off of
something from earlier era. For example, one could easily state that
Everquest, WoW, Phantasy Star, Zelda, etc are all ripped off of
Adventure. Doom3 is nothing more than a copy of Duck Hunt in 3D glory
with mutants instead of ducks.

It is very hard to come up with a 100% original game these day when
you have like a million games made from Pongs / Odyssey / Channel F /
2600 to GC / XBox / PS2 / PSP / DS / PC / etc... I think the last
true original game that really took off very well were Tetris about 16
years ago.
