I am buying a new laptop and since it cannot fit both a ssd and a hard drive internally, I was wondering if I could put Win8.1 and programs on a fast flash card ( SanDisk extreme32GB) left in permanently and use that to boot computer and have the rest of the files on the hard drive? I believe you can do it with a USB drive but that would stick out the side of the computer and might get broken when carrying it.
Has anyone tried this?

Not really, no. Nor with a USB drive.
Well...you can, but it is a real PITA, and dirt slow if you do get it working.

And a 32GB drive is too small anyway.

Thanks for that. It is what Asus tech support said too. I had just read about booting from flash drives and also about fast flash speeds. I guess I put 2 and 2 together and got 5.
