Hi,

I have an Acer Aspire (3820TZ-4571) laptop and I dropped it while there was headphones plugged in to the 3.5mm jack.

Now the laptop thinks there is something permanently plugged into the 3.5mm and the speakers don't work. Even worse, the 3.5mm jack only works if I plug earphones into it and pull them really tight against the laptop (i duct tape them).

I've tried to disable the 3.5mm with software and have had no luck.

1) Is there a way of disabling the 3.5mm jack via software that I haven't found yet?

2) Is it easy to replace the 3.5mm jack myself?

Thank you in advance for any help.

Solution
I have never heard of a problem like this. The only thing I can think of is buying a usb adapter for the earbuds:

Not 100% with laptop, but have you tried changing the output device in settings? I know you said you disabled the 3.5mm but it could be something to do with what output the laptop is running through

Right click volume bar at bottom right of homescreen, and select "playback devices" then change your output off the Headphone jack, which is probably called stereo..
Only possible solution I could think of, but yeah the USB would work to get your headphones back working
However if it's constantly outputting through headphone this solution won't work
