Hi All,

I've just moved house, and despite packing my CD separate in it's
original box, it's now broken :-(

It's a NAD C520 and when I put a CD in, the disc spins up, there's a
couple of clicking noises then the display says "Err" and that's it.

I've taken it apart (it's out of guarantee) and can't find anything
obvious wrong.

I just thought I check here to see if anyone has any inspiration, before
chucking it in a skip ;-(

Thanks,
Adam

To 'Err' is human :) Did you lock or secure the transport before shipping
to your house? Was there any manufacturers instructions for transit??
It's possible it may have sustained mechanical damage.

No

Hmm, I didn't check, but I don't think so.

Don't throw it away - put it to one side for a few months then *pounce on*
it without warning some time.

(Then you'll be able to fix it....!! ;-)

Why bother using apostrophes at all if you can't form the
correct possessive of "it"?

The CD player is toast. Get over it.

Did you lock the transport in place before moving it, and fail to
unlock it after moving?

Another possibility: if you didn't lock it, or if the box was dropped
or jounced too hard, it's possible that the sled was slammed around
hard enough to knock the optical system out of alignment.

OK, there's a whole table full of screws and I've just spent the last
half hour trying to get the tray mechanism working again but guess what...

It works!!

Fantastic. :D

Thanks for all the replies. :)

Hello, Adam.

It's always worth making sure all of the various connectors inside the
player are pushed fully into their sockets. Also, has the disc table the
CD sits on slipped down the spindle of the motor, in which case the
laser may no longer be able to focus on the disc? Have you tried
cleaning the lens (with the player switched off, to avoid looking into
the laser beam or electrocuting yourself)? If you can't get it going,
and you live in London, please feel free to sling it in my direction as
I can always use spare parts.

Cheers, Jon.

Look at it this way - Best Buy was selling *universal*
DVD-A/SACD/CD-A/CD-MP3-WMA Pioneer DV-578 optical disc players with 112 dB
dynamic range converters for $99 last week. You can still find them on the
web in many places this week for $129.

My 541i started doing that (or similar) - cured by switching off and
then back on at mains outlet (whilst unit on), then only putting the
unit into standby when not in use. Hope that's clear - worked for me
:)
