Solved! Broken screen pixels

My laptop (hp elitebook 8760w) has an issue with the inside of the screen. I was in a hurry when I closed it a couple of days ago and closed a little trinket my daughter made me inside. Didn’t even think about it but when I turned it on today, half the screen doesn’t work and it looks like a crack right where the decoration was. I have a pic if I can figure out how to upload it. Wondering what I need to do to fix? Thank you for any help

So would I need to purchase like the whole top with screen, hinges etc? Or what part do I look for? The outside isn't cracked at all, it's completely inside the display.

Depends on the laptop. First you need to look into the part. See what the cost is. If it comes as one whole piece (interior and exterior) or if you can purchase the screen only and put it in the exterior you have. Before even considering buying it then I would look online for any walk throughs, instructions, or videos on how to replace the display on that make/model. There are usually some. This will also tell you how simple it will be. If you haven't done it yourself before, or it seems a bit more than you feel comfortable with, then I would try a local tech and see what they would charge.

Note: If it is under warranty, don't do anything until you see if it it can be fixed under that warranty by the manufacturer.

Thanks for the tips! I will start doing some checking, it's a laptop that I bought used so it's not worth putting a ton of money into and I have everything saved but it's pretty powerful so I would like to save it if I can, and lesson learned... I was in such a hurry I didn't even pay attention to the little stupid beado fish my daughter gave me and so sweetly placed on my computer when I was working. Nothing touches the laptop again... ever.
