I have found that if I attempt to boot my old laptop sometimes it gives me a BSoD with the code 0x124.This happens before Windows 7 logo (I can tell, because when Windows logo comes on the wifi button turn blue). If I reboot it usually boots succesfully.

Hi,

That error could be related to a driver in your PC. First try updating some major components of your laptop like the Graphics card, Sound and Raid configuration. Next is to check for any BIOS update there is from the support site of your laptop. Also disable all the startup items in your laptop. Open System Configuration by pressing the Windows key + R then type in "msconfig" and press OK. Go to the Startup tab and click on Disablle all. Reboot your laptop once done then observe it again. If all these fail to resolve the issue I would suggest a complete factory reset but down side is you'll have to start from scratch.
