To the guy claiming Japan/China had an unpredicted rise of world prominence. Dude ... read some history. The US chose to rebuild Japan and purposely made them a favored trading partner in order to boost Japan's rebuilding efforts and economy. Hmmm ... China became favored nation status for trade quite some time back. China then sells a crap load of crap to the US. Now China is doing well. Coincidence? I think not. I am over simplifying, other factors clearly are inovolved but the heart of it had much to do with the US wanting influence in an area due to Business/Geo-Political considerations. The same was true of Western Europe as well.

The US and the world are struggling to find a new balance. Clearly the world is rising ... this is a good thing. However, the traditional method for a poor country to rise was to sell stuff to the US. Obviously the US spent much more than it earned to buy other peoples crap. This cannot continue forever. So the hope is, newly developed countries buy thier own crap and sell to each other while buying more US crap and selling less crap the the US. The goal would be at some point to achieve balance in trade. This would mean the US can slowly pay down its debt and not be the central buyer of the worlds crap. DUH ... I know this is a simplified view.

PS ... yes the US is rah rah about itself, but so what? Every country is rah rah about themselves as they should be. Whoopee.

By the time they finish silicon valley, America would probably introduce the first complete quantum computers; nonetheless, such investment would be better gone after research for quantum computers even if they would finish their own silicon valley in time.
