Hello,
Im a software engineer and i'm thinking about buying a new laptop.
I'm using sofwares like visual studio and android studio and may have to tun jvm from time to time.
So i now that a minium of 8 GB RAM is required and i can't decide which CPU is the right for me: I7-6700HQ vs I7-6500U vs I5-6300HQ.

Of course,it'd be great if you can suggest me on another CPU

Thanks.

Hello,

As a fellow programmer I can safely say that any off those will work just fine. The i7 6700hq is the best but unnecessary for what you are doing because it will probably almost never be used at 100%.

That was my thougt too.
It sure looks tempting to buy the 6700HQ but that's expensive and unesaccery.
Is there any major difference between the 6500U which has 2 physical cores and 2 virtual cores and the 6300HQ which has 4 physical cores?
Also the 6500U is 200MHz faster than the 6300HQ but in turbo mode the last one is faster by 100MHz. Does this really matters?

The 6300HQ pretty much has double the speed compared to the 6500u but sucks double the power as well.

So you say that i may want to check the battery that comes in the laptop with the 6300HQ ,right?
And may i ask for your opinion? which one would you coose?

4 physical cores is always better than 2 real and 2 fake cores. If the price is the same go with the 6300hq it's just better overall.

I use to develop android apps earlier (Now switched to iOS) and I know how much time Android Studio use to take to open on my dual core i5 processor (3rd gen). I would not recommend dual core CPUs for running visual studio, Android studio and JVM. Go with quad core i5 that will save you few bucks and give you right performance for your needs. Here's the recommended laptop with i5-6300HQ, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD and Nvidia Geforce GTX 960M 4GB Graphics @ $799 on Amazon - http://www.amazon.com/Dell-15-6-Inch-Quad-Core-i5-6300HQ-Processor/dp/B015PYYDMQ

It has average battery life of 4.5 hours while gaming which I think will be increased to 5+ hours with your work.

Thanks but unfortunatelly, there are two problam with your recommendation:

1. I live in Israel so tax and shipment will cost me a lot. To be precisely it will cost 1039 dollar.
2. From my experience, I'm affraid that 256GB SSD is not enough.

What do you think about this: http://en.ksp.co.il/?store=eilat2&uin=32676 for 953$ from a store in Israel

That is a really well balanced and powerful laptop. You aren't gaming on this right because a gtx 960m is not necessary if you are just programming you could even come by with the intel integrated graphics no problem.

Yeah I know, but it's hard to find a laptop with this CPU and the intel integrated graphics.
Maybe you can take a look on that website above and try to see what might be good for me?
I found this laptop http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/ideapad/700-series/700-15-inch/#tab-tech_specs with I7-6300HQ CPU, 8GB DDR4 and 1TB HDD for 841$. Can you give your opinino on that laptop?

Thanks pal!
Another thing, right now I'm using my 3 years old laptop, lenovo thinkpad t430 with I5-3320M CPU, 4GB 1600MHz RAM and 500GB HDD. should i buy an extra 4GB RAM for 27$ and see if it satisfy me or that you can say that the CPU is to old anyway?

Ok so I looked all over the site and well that is pretty much the best bang for the buck laptop you'll find on there. Also after looking at the picture for about 10 seconds i recognized it and it's the laptop my school recommended to use for DAE. Almost all my friend over there have it and it's a really good laptop with a lot of nice features.

I have a computer with a i5 750 cpu and that is a bit worse than what you have. I sometimes use this to work on and visual studio runs just fine on it so does 3ds max (a bit slower than on my main system tho). It has 8 gb of ram so it just depends on what you think is worth it. Your computer is definitely still usable for programming if you get another 4-8gb of ram.

It should work. I see nothing wrong with it.
