Calendar symbols

Does anyone know a method or program to have fixed symbols
for certain events. eg I am on call on certain days of the
month, and on the month view, I would like a symbol to
appear for the days I am on call, that is different to the
other symbols.

You're out of luck if you want to do this with the built in Calendar
application, but f you use an alternative PIM manager like Agenda Fusion
(http/www.developerone.com) or Pocket Informant
(http/www.pocketinformant.com) you could use dedicated categories for these
special appointments, and show a different color for these appointments.
