Can a bad inverter cause my display to be white

I have an HP G61 laptop. When I turn it on my display is white. If I pinch the screen together somewhere near the top right hand corner it works fine. I have disassembled the display and there are no loose connections. When I connect an external display it works fine. I can see the inverter and I don't see any obvious problems. Can anyone help?

Welcome to the world of HP laptops, 25% failure rate within the first 3 years. It sounds to me like there's a broken connection somewhere in that corner. If its not physically damaged and is still within the RMA period you may be able to get HP to repair it on their dime.
