I have an IBM Thinkpad that comes in with the Intel Core 2 Duo 1.66GHz and a 100GB Hitachi HDD. And because it's running very slow in Win7, I was wondering if I could upgrade to Windows 8.1, but using the 32-bit edition, and I'm not upgrading it to Windows 10 because it only has 2GB RAM. So, is this old laptop capable of running a modern OS?

Solution
You need to add more RAM for better performance. If it's 32-bit Windows, double it up to 4GB, that'll give you around 3.2GB usable. Not a giant leap but still better than 2GB.
