Can I add 2.0 speakers alongside 5.1system on a 7.1 pc soundcard.

Is the adding of similarly powerful 2.0 speaker via 3.5mm jack to an existing 5.1 system on my new 7.1 soundcard?

sorry, just realised it wasn't clear. Wondered if this arrangement would result in a cheats 7.1 speaker set?

Yes it would work but make sure that your speakers correspond to proper surround setting when you change from 5.1 to 7.1.
