Question Can I replace my Ryzen 5 laptop motherboard with a Ryzen 7 one?

Hey everyone, I need some help understanding a laptop repair situation.

I have an HP Pavilion laptop that originally came with a Ryzen 5 processor, but the motherboard is dead. I took it to a local repair shop and they told me they couldn’t find a replacement board with a Ryzen 5 processor, but they do have a board with a Ryzen 7 processor.

So my questions are: 1. Is it okay to replace a Ryzen 5 motherboard with a Ryzen 7 one in a laptop? Will the Ryzen 7 board work fine in the same chassis, considering things like thermals, connectors, etc.? 2. Do I need to change my RAM too? The repair guy said something about the RAM being different for Ryzen 7 — is that true? I currently have DDR4 RAM that came with the Ryzen 5 setup.

Would appreciate it if anyone with experience or technical knowledge could guide me. I don’t want to spend money only to find out there are compatibility issues.

Thanks in advance!

As long as the motherboard is for the same laptop model and everything, the R5 and R7 board variants should be interchangeable. Which particular R5 did yours have, and which particular R7 is this? If they have the same TDP and all, the cooling solution should work the same as it did previously. The RAM should be the same, if the R7 motherboard is for the same laptop model.
You should share the following information to better help others help you: Laptop model, dead board's CPU, replacement board's CPU, and the model number of both the dead board and the potential replacement board. If you can get that information. That would help in determining the compatibility.
Another thing to consider is the cost and age of the laptop, the cost of the repair, and the cost of replacing the laptop instead. As much as I am a fan of repairing, depending on those variables as well it may just make more sense to get a different laptop instead and part out or recycle the old one with the dead board.
