Can I upgrade this laptop (M15x) with these parts?

Hey Guys

I have a question in regards to a situation i currently have with an Alienware m15x Laptop. The specs for the laptop are as follows:

i7 820 @ 1.77GHz
Nvidia 260m
8GB RAM

Bios is A09 and its running Windows 7

This laptop was given to us for my GF to use after her Toshiba L650 motherboard died. The specs for the Toshiba are:

i3 350M 2.26GHz
ATI HD 5145
2GB RAM

The ram doesn't matter because atm the 8 gig in the m15x is taking up 2 slots so that's the most I can have,

The question is about both the CPU and the GFX card. Is it possible to replace the m15x's components with the Toshiba's?

We used to be about to play Guild Wars 2 with the Toshiba but with the Alienware it just drops to 2 fps when there are lots of people around at the lowest settings across the board, which I'm guessing is due to the cpu's low clock setting.

Any answers I could get would be appreciated, as well as any advice you might have for increasing performance on the Alienware besides using the lowest settings or turning off background processes etc in regards to game performance.

Laptop CPU and GPU are nearly impossible to upgrade, they not only require some skill, most importantly the components are either very expensive or does not exist on the market and only available to the OEM. However, there are still some CPU out there that you can upgrade to, but I don't recommend it as it is very expensive and not really worth the trouble either since games require a better GPU anyway.

So the answer would be no, it's not possible.

The CPUs are of the same generation and socket, so unless either one is soldered to the board, you could technically put the i3 in the Alienware.

But that would yield poorer performance.

The i7 has a turbo frequency that is faster than the i3's base frequency. The i7 being a quad core too, it should be able to handle considerably more than the i3 can. The 260M in the Alienware is much better than the Toshiba's 5145 also.

You cannot swap the video cards in any case due to compatibility.

You may be able to raise the base frequency of the i7 with Intel's Xtreme Tuning Utility. You also want the laptop on the "Performance" power plan and it should be plugged in when gaming, rather than using battery power.

The computer is an Alienware I can be upgraded the best gpu you can put inside it is a 7970m you could go for a 7980m but that card runs extremely hot and is not recommended. also for your cpu you can get a 920xm or a 940xm. For the price and performance the 920xm makes more sense. Unfortunately you probably cant swap the toshiba parts. If you want more power out of your cpu try downloading throttle stop also make sure you dont have any junk running in the background. I have a m15x with a 720qm and a gtx260m 8gigs of ram 16000mhz and can play Farcry 3 on ultra at 30-35fps at 1600x900 (native) so I would think guild wars would run fine also make sure all of you drivers are up to date. wrong both CPU and GPU can be upgrade. as i done both. just gotta dig for what works. m15x is SUPER easy to find the upgradeable parts as theirs ton of people asking this about this labtop
