Question Can I use my Samsung Windows 8.1 phone to do skype equivalent ?

I know that Win phone 8,1 is not supported anymore. I thought that I can still use it as is with old Apps. But Microsoft has shut down the access to Store also. This means I can do nothing with it. My Samsung cannot be upgraded to WIN 10. I have moved to an Android phone. But I hated to throw away something that is still working. I thought I can use it as a skype device to do video call with my grandkids just over the internet. But found out that SKype is not working anymore. Can someone shed some light on this?
