My laptop is over heating at 55 celcius, it's a Toshiba Satellite.

It ran at 45-50 when it was new, so I take it the fan ducst are dirty, the thing is 3 years old.

I can buy a small air gun from the hardware store and connect it to an air hose at a gaz station, would that be ok to blow off the dust?

Well technically yes but I am going to say "at your own risk". Those guns shoot moisture out as well as air. The moisture can corrode your laptop. (This is all in theory) I always use my air compressor and everything is just fine. (Air Compressor=gas station hose)

What your problem might be is actually that your CPU thermal paste is now really hard and old. I would suggest removing it and re applying some. Watch a video on how to do this.

With the air hose, spray the curb or ground or something really close to see what we mean. The ground will be wet pretty quick.
