Can I use the sound both on the laptop and tv while the laptop is plugged into the tv?

I want to use skype on the laptop with the sound from skype coming out of the laptop and my boyfriend wants to watch netflix from the computer to the tv with the sound coming from the tv. I just don't want both sounds to be coming from the tv but I'm not sure if it is possible or not can someone tell me if it is or not?

How is the laptop hooked up to the TV?

If it's by HDMI then you can left click the sound icon in the bottom right and choose mixer. From there you can choose the output from HDMI to be through the TV and Skype to be through the laptop speakers.

I just opened the mixer but the only option is under Device to change the sound from the tv to the laptop and its not changing even when I do that?
