Ok I'n not sure what you mean by core and CPU??? But if your processor is the one you say it is, then yes, it'll be able to handle the gtx 970, however, how do you plan to hook up the GPU to your laptop???

Sorry I don't know a lot about computers, I'm trying to upgrade my wife's old laptop to use it for myself. I don't know what CPU or GPU are and I'm new to this forum. I saw a video on youtube that tells you how to change the graphics card thats how i was planing on changing.

It's important to remember that a GTX 970 and GTX 970M aren't the same device and don't offer the same performance. The former is a fully-fledged desktop graphics card (GPU) and the other is a low-power laptop graphics card. You can't make direct comparisons.

If you want a graphics card (GPU) for VR, then you need to ensure that it will be compatible with the VR headset you're planning to get.

then you are out of luck, laptops have everything soldered in ( unless you have the very $$$$ top of the line models )

time to get a proper desktop pc
