Questions about External Monitors and Graphics Cards in Laptops (Lenovo 15-isk)(GTX 960M)

My system: Lenovo Y700 -15isk (16 GB RAM), with Intel core i7-6700HQ CPU, Intel HD 530 Integrated graphics, and Nvidia GeForce GTX 960m 4GB dedicated video, Windows 10 Home 64-bit Edition

I had actually two questions. Does the Nvidia GTX 960M run external monitors plugged into the hdmi socket or does the Intel HD 530? I am going to assume no because when I go into the intel software I can see the monitor in there.

So this laptop according the Lenovo specs should be able to run an external monitor (1,920 × 1,080) but the max that windows shows me is (1280x800). In the Intel app I added the 1920x1080 custom resolution to test it and nothing changed on the external monitor. Anyone have any idea why I can't get past that 1280x800?

Thanks in advance

which monitor are you using?

try the windows settings to get your resolution on the external monitor

eventually update your drivers and the BIOS of the laptop

Thanks for the reply helpstar,

My external monitor is an HP LP3065 (2560 x 1600) and I am using a hdmi to DVI-D adapter to connect. My laptop has an hdmi out port.
