can my laptop overheat on a table

basicly its a dell but i use a laptop cooler it doesn't work i need help

If the fan is not working or vents are blocked with dust or heatsinks are not connected properly system can overheat.
It may not even be a heat issue, bad video card or motherboard/RAM/CPU issues can crash like a system like an overheat would.
