Hello,i just got a 4k screen 60hz so was wondering if i could get 30-40fps at 4K in some of the games like without changing the settings to medium:

gta5
farcry 4
new nfs series

also which cards would you recommend for desktop for maxing out everything in 4k from the amd side...

i did that 3dmark to check it out

thanks

4k would be a stretch with it. You may get 30fps out of some games with that (but probably not GTA V and definitely not on max settings). That 3D mark score is only about 1000 more than my system with 1 R9 280, I run 2 now and get 9522 and 1080p is perfect but I don't even bother with 4k (I don't have the monitor for it anyway).

If you want to max out 4k on the AMD side you want to get yourself 2 R9 290x or 390x, or a new Fury X

I doubt you will get 30-40fps even at medium settings as it takes very high end PC components to do 1440p at high frame rates and high quality settings. This level of performance simply is not available in laptops yet.

You do apparently have a nice laptop however.

well i run everything maxed out at 1440p using around 9gb vram and it gives me 40-45fps on laptop!

this was the max possible gpu in sli available in a laptop spec....
so what you guys are saying that there is no laptop capable of playing 4k @ 30fps !
i was looking at the msi titan , it has gtx980 in sli....or i guess its time to build a desktop then!

fury x is not available in laptops yet i think...neither is 390x i checked it out

i can get amd or nvidia doesnt matter...just been using amd for some time now....

You asked for desktop not laptop.

If you want to build a 4k desktop machine, 2 980ti in SLI is the way to go over the Titan X.

Laptops 4k at 30fps max settings, don't exist and won't for a while. As it is most desktops have a hard time with it with WAY more power and space for cooling.

1> Gigabyte GV-N980X3WA

2> crossfire of amd fury x

3> crossfire of R9 295X2

4> quadfire of 290x

I have to agree. I don't think there's such a thing as a 4k capable laptop. It requires 2 top end GPUs to achieve 4k reliably. That's at least dual 980 or Fury cards at full power...not their mobile variants.

Also, Rogue Leader, your sig almost matches my old rig...was a 1090t @ 4.0GHz + dual HD 7950 GHz ed. :)

checkout the specs i mentioned, select a graphics card package from the 5 so i can finalize the deal and move on to 4k gaming brv!

Crossfire the Fury X.

That said this is a MASSIVE amount of money for a "Casual gamer", those 2 cards alone are gonna cost you almost $1200

LOL cool. I still love mine plays anything I toss at it no problem. I am an AMD guy and I just haven't seen a reason to upgrade yet. Maybe next year when Zen comes out, so that its actually worth it.

BTW I think we may have had this discussion in another thread lol.

there is another problem now!

my tv has hdmi 2.0 only...its 60hz when you plug an hdmi 2.0 into it.

which graphics card supports hdmi 2.0? only 980Ti so my best option is to Sli 980Ti for now and if required go quadsli 980Ti later on! agreed?

is the alienware laptop using 2.0 hdmi out?

Most current graphics cards support HDMI 2.0 as they support HDCP 2.2 as well, not just the 980Ti. My R9 280 supports it and its only a mid range card. And yes currently there are no TVs with anything higher than HDMI 2.0 . If you want higher refresh rate you need to use display port which is only on monitors and very expensive screens.

That looks much better. Still not going to do 4k like you want.
