Can the power supply affect laptop perfomance..

Hello,I have a hp pavilliondv2000 and few months ago i had to replace the battery. Almost at the same time i have started to have problems with the screen which sometimes go black or with a very low visibility. Suddently it works normally again. I also notice when it goes black i hear a noise that i find associated to electricity. What should i do? could it just be a need a quality power supply? or a fuse in my screen should be replaced. i am about to toss my Laptop, but actually everythin else is ok. what to do.. I went to Bestbuy and they asked me to leave the computer for about 2 weeks to what i say NO WAY.. I am broke to buy a new one if i can avoid it for now.... please help me with some clues.
