Cannot connect to wifi connection.

Hello,
on my laptop wirless is ON and it shows the available networks but when I try to connect to a particular network it says 'can't connect to this network'.

i just updated my driver for my wireless adapter and it still does not help. I can only go online via wired. This only happened a few days ago after I got replace my Windows7 by Windows8.1 . I need this version for software installation.

any idea what the error happens? hp tried to help me but basically told me to reformat and dlink told me its a hw issue which i do not think it is (i have two other laptops in the hosue that have no problem to connect via wireless).
I really have no clue about this problem.Please help me out.

Is your wireless network a public or private connection. It might not connect thinking it is public and not asking for a password

Also try this. 'Forget the network' you're trying to connect to and connect to it again.

No the password I entered was the correct one..still can't get the connection.
