Can't install synaptics

hello
I have acer aspire r13 the QHD version. My touch pad drivers are 2006 microsoft drivers and not the synaptics drivers. I installed synaptics and it says that the drivers are installed, but when I go to control panel, mouse.. synaptics does not open and the synaptic driver does seem to be installed. Please help!

A little research turned up that this a common problem with Acer laptops. On another model, they resolved it with a different driver (Elan), you might try that, or the driver from Synaptics website:

The touchpad works and have advanced settings(ELAN) with the latest driver : Intel and Touchpad Elantech release in 05.02.2015 and 18.12.2014

Tried downloading the second file for windows 10 and it didnt work.
It didnt say ELAN on it though!

You can find the generic Elan driver in the link below. One other thing you can try is to download and run Slimdrivers. It has a huge library of drivers and may give you the correct driver for your touchpad.
