I want to do a ghost 2003 backup of my laptop drive to upgrade to a faster and bigger hard drive. Ghost says it cannot run because:
"Unable to find free MBR slot in the Virtual Partition DLL. This is usually du to no free primary partition slots left on the boot disk"

In disk Manager I see four partitions:

FAT 47MB with 29MB free
FAT32 3.12 GB with 504mb free
NTFS (C:) 143.88GB
FAT32 Media Direct 2.00 GB 350MB free

Which of the first two partirions can I delete assuming that I do not wish to ever use the Dell recovery process. I'll always use the Ghost backup and recovery toolset.

TIA for any help.

Hi Bapu

the main reason for this is bcause you can't ghost on the same drive so you'll have to partition the hard disk first in two: C and D and then do and then ghost on D.
1st one is diagnostic tools for dell. it's OK to leave it.
2nd is the system restore that you can delete.
the 4th is Media Direct that if you don't use I suggest You can delete it because it might cause you some problems in the future.
Further more if you want to install a new OS my advice for you is to REFORMAT THE WHOLE drive and then reinstall the NEW OS.

GOOD LUCK :hello:
