Changing laptop output resolution

I want to buy a laptop. For travelling and to connect to my HD TV for playing movies etc. My TV is 1080p but most laptops have a lesser resolution. Makes sense because the screens are way smaller. Are there options or is it common for laptops to export higher definition when I HDMI it to my TV?

I know another options is the chromebox, but I would like have windows on it and be able to travel with it. Thanks for your answers!

If you have the common HD 4400-5500 graphics or any of the Radeon R6 R7, or GTX 9xx series GPUs then you can output up to 4k on TVs. So you won't be limited on resolution.
