Changing my 1080p tv to actually show 1080p resolution instead of the 720p I'm getting....please help!

bought this 60" inch Sharp Aquos tv, and it's supposed to be 1080p and 120hz...but the video is set automatically set to 720p. which makes no sense, cause I'm getting 120hz. Could it be the cable box isn't programmed from rogers end to allow me 1080p relsolution? Help!

Unless I'm mistaken, the vast majority of HD content from the cable companies is still 720p/1080i.
