Charger not working

My laptop will only charge when I hold the charger in. I have purchased a brand new battery thinking that would solve the problem. Could it be something wrong with the socket adapter is plugged into. Once I stop holding adapter in the computer will stay on for 2 seconds to ten minutes depending on how hard I type.

Either the charging port on the laptop is going bad, or the end of the charger cable that plugs into the laptop is probably developing a short inside the wiring.

Not gonna comment on the battery thing.

I will go further and say 99.9% charger problem, because my lawyer always tell me leave 0.1% to chance.

Between charger cable and charger port, depending upon the type of port (how delicate is it?) I first blame cable.
