Hey there.

I just removed my old and dead laptop's hard drive, and I want to somehow make sure it doesn't contain a virus before I go through the content of it on my new PC. What is the best way to check if it has a virus or not without risking my new PC getting infected (in case it has one)?

Hope it is possible, thanks in advance.

I'm assuming you're going to house the laptop's HDD in an enclosure and then connect to your desktop via USB. If so then you'd want to hold down the shift key while plugging in the drive. This should disable autorun (when on Windows OS environment).

You can then perform a scan on the drive with an antivirus of your choice.

I'm using a IDE SATA to USB as connection, and I'm on Windows 10 Home.
