Hi Friends,

I was looking for Latops and have shorlisted the following ones:

and

https://www.hpshopping.in/HP_Pavilion_15-p097tx_Notebook_PC_Laptop

the p029tx costs significantly lower that p097tx, the specs have been provided in the links. Want a suggestion which one i should go for. I will not do significant amount of gaming on the laptop. Will be using mostly Linux (Elementary OS and Mint)and occasionally windows on the same. I need a good crisp display without any lags and smooth animations and multimedia on the latop. Can anyone suggest should i go for p097tx or p029tx will be enough for me. The difference is about 7K INR which is roughly 140 USD. Would prefer a good battery time but not a major concern.

Another thing, I want to replace my existing lenovo laptop, this one:

a bit different variant. I do not have HD6650 and dual graphics. Its integrated AMD HD6520g

This laptop is just over 2 yrs oldwill this be a good upgrade? The AMD processor, though it says its quad core it is really pathetic in multitasking, which is quite important for me. Also it does not perform good enough for Linux as compared to my core i5 desktop.

Solution
I would recommend the p097x, while both models share the same chassis, going with the i5 now will be much better in the long run.

Biggest thing you should expect when you switch over is a MUCH longer battery life if you need to be mobile.

Is it worth the price. This i5 processor is only dual core. Is it worth the replacement for my current one?

Even if the i5 is dual core, it can turbo and give you a lot more power compared to the i3 or that AMD that you currently have. The i5 can turbo up to 2.7 GHz if you need that extra power. Whereas the i3 is locked to 1.9 GHz and your AMD is a much older CPU stuck at 1.5 GHz

Thanks,

But will that be helpful considering the price difference and my requirement. My requirent is running bittorent or updating the OS, listening music or watching videos occasionally and browsing net or doing some word processing/programming together. Background processes in linux like Dropbox, system monitor are always running though. Thats the only level of multitasking i need. Occasional gaming.
