Chromecast via monitor only - no sound

I have this setup downstairs with no problem: Chromecast plugged into HDMI TV via sound extractor to have sound to external speakers. For a while it was plugged directly to a computer monitor the same was (with extractor), and had sound to speakers with no problem.

Now, upstairs, I wish to use to use that same CC via that same monitor, and an extractor again, to connect to a different set of external speakers - not working! Why? Driving me nuts! I get the picture just fine - just the audio is missing. Yes, I could buy a new TV but I want to preferably use what I already have. Thanks.

If everything is the same except the speakers then try the ones you were using downstairs. If the extractor is connected to the speakers via digital audio maybe the speakers are not compatible with the output of the CC. Don't know if you can change the audio mode of the CC.

Well, that was my last resort, as there is a tangle of wires of all kinds (TV, PVR, etc), but, I may have to do that. I usually figure these things out (eventually) but this has me stumped. Thanks for the response!
