CLD-D70* Series of Players

It has long been discussed on this newsgroup that, short of going the
elite route, the Pioneer CLD-D70.. series of players is the best 'bang
for the buck.' In fact, if memory serves, some here have stated the
D70*'s come pretty damn close to elite quality.

I am curious if anyone out there can tell me the qualitative difference
between the (as I count them) four players dated 1992-1995. Of course,
the 1995 model, CLD-D704, stand out given the AC3 output. But, AC3
aside, what about the picture quality? Does 1992's CLD-D701 match the
704 in terms of quality? What changes happened during that four-year
production run? There must have been tweaks, but how significant were
they from one year to the next?

Pioneer made a significant upgrade in picture performance between the
CLD-D702 and CLD-D703. The 703 has much better noise reduction controls.

The only difference between the 703 and CLD-D704 is the AC-3 output.
