my moms tv is a lcd flat screen but it only has coaxial connection not optical

the surround only has coaxial as well

whats the best way to get the surround working

Err best u elaborate on your set up i.e are u pulling TV straight from antenna and/or have other stuff/sources hooked up to the telly? Also by surround : do u have a surround speaker set up already in place?

If your TV has a coax digital output and your surround has a coax digital input just connect them with a coax digital cable. If the TV and surround both have L/R analog audio connections then connect them with an standard RCA audio cable. If your surround only has L/R analog audio inputs then you will need a digital to analog converter. Plenty out there, just Google it.
