college course note taking & paper writing

my daughter must draw notes for biology, anatomy, chem, math, etc but write papers for english history and languages, etc. Is there one device to handle this or must we buy a pad and a laptop? Needs to sync with iphone 5, Budget $1,500.

Word of advice for college: leave the laptop at home
