Com.google.process.gaps message ?

As it says above......s4mini turned jtselfoff then on earlier (cut out as it does)......now displaying this message and have lost all device photos ....some apps etc.....
Any advice appreciated

Sounds like you need to try doing a factory reset, that will wipe the device and load the default operating system it came with. Hopefully you had backups of your files and contacts saved somewhere. If the restore does not work, you could have an issue with the hardware. Luckily a used S4 is cheap, even an upgrade to an S5 or S6 is pretty cheap now.
