Compaq Presario R3000 installation of operating system

Hello,
I have just bought a second hand Compaq Presario R3000 and, to ensure there is no 'unwanted software' installed on it, I want to format the hard drive and re-install the operating system. Can somebody guide me in the process, step by step, if possible. Thanks JLB

All you have to do is pop in the install disk. When you boot your pc press the f8 key and then select boot cd or dvd then do a install. You should have a key on the bottom of your pc to type in to activate your os. You will also have to get some of the drivers for your pc at the manufacturers website.
