Connect Bose 321 to Samsung 8500 55"

I bought and connected an optical cable to Bose and TV, how do I change the Bose to the optical option? I followed the instructions from the Bose manual, but when I select System on the remote to bring the Bose menu options on the tv screen, nothing shows up on the screen. HELP!!!!

The optical cable gets audio from the TV to the Bose.
It doesn't get the video display on to the TV. Connect the video out of the 321 to a video input on the TV and select that input to view the menu.

The tv doesn't have the old type connections it have several hdmi and USB ports. Is there an adapter/converter that will connect the bose to the tv?

You would need a composite video to HDMI converter (not just a cable).

If you can find or borrow an old TV to connect temporarily that would work fine.
