Question Samsung TV and Vizio Sound bar - Remote issues

Samsung TV
Model: UN50NU6950F

Vizio Soundbar
Model: V21-H8

TV connected to soundbar using optic cable.

I cannot control volume of the soundbar using my Samsung remote.

I have googled it and here are some suggestions that HAVE NOT worked:
- Click on Source on the Samsung remote and select "Universal Remote" - No such selection available
- Remove and replace battery on Samsung remote - Did not help
- Remove and reconnect optic cable - Did not help
- Disconnect TV and soundbar power and re-connect - Did not help

So here I am.

HELP !!!

Hey, I feel your pain — I had a very similar setup and ran into the exact same issue.


When you're using an optical cable, unfortunately, your Samsung remote usually won’t be able to control the soundbar volume directly. Optical just doesn’t carry those volume control signals like HDMI ARC does.


One thing that might help (if your soundbar supports it) is teaching it to recognize your TV remote — some Vizio soundbars have a "learning mode" where they can learn volume up/down from another remote. You’d have to check the manual for your exact model, but usually, you press and hold a button like “Input” on the soundbar to enter that mode.
