how to connect cable box to receiver to tv to get sound from speakers etc.... No DVD player no additional components

simplest is via hdmi if available, otherwise there should be a red and a white connector for stereo output on the box wich goes into the stereo input on the receiver. receiver stereo out goes to tv stero in.

Without makes and model numbers of the three components we can't know what outputs and inputs you have so you won't get an exact answer. One way to do it is
1. Cable box HDMI goes to the TV HDMI input.
2. Audio output of either the TV or cable box goes to the receiver.
