connect second display and use it for gaming and turn off laptop display

I have a laptop and I would like to play games on it. What happen if I connect monitor to the laptop and make laptop settings as second screen only, so my laptop display will go off and the monitor will turn on and play games ? Is it good for the laptop and will it effect the performances ?

This depends on the laptop, in some laptops the external monitor connections run off the onboard video instead of the secondary gaming card, that will make it run slower off the external screen. Also if the monitor is higher resolution than the laptop screen, that will also make gaming slower.
