connecting laptop to tv

when I connect the cable I get a message on the TV saying "no signal". I have set up my laptop correctly but need to configure the tv. how?

Make sure it's on the right channel, often something like "HDMI 1." You'll have to make sure it's set to accept av input from an external source. This usually involves the remote control, which has buttons indicating video source.

On some projectors you have to select the input and then turn on the computer to get them to handshake and connect properly. It might be the same with your TV.
