Connecting my 5.1 to a computer

So I have a Vizio SB4051-CO and it plays 5.1 fine when connected through my bluray. When I connect my PC the same way I don't get any sound through the rear speakers. I have the hdmi from my MSI - GeForce GTX 980 to the soundbar then out to the tv. I have my playback device configured to 5.1 as well. Thanks for any help

The audio codec of the file or stream you are playing may not be compatible with the Vizio. If you can play Dolby Digital test files that would help figure it out.

So I ran some of the tests and still don't get sound from back speakers. Front left right and center work as well as the sub.

Ok so that wasn't really true. When I ran the dolby test https/www.dolby.com/us/en/guide/test-tones.html I got sound out of the rear speakers. Everything else still gives me nothing. Does this make sense?
